DTF (Direct to Film Printing)
DTF involves printing designs onto a special film, then transferring them to fabric using heat and pressure. It allows detailed, full-color images to be applied to almost any material. DTF is great for small batches, custom items, and placement flexibility. The result is vibrant, durable graphics with excellent wash resistance and soft hand-feel.
The primary component of DTF powder is thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), a versatile and high-performance polymer with excellent adhesive properties. TPU is a white, powdery substance that melts and transforms into a sticky, viscous liquid when heated. Once cooled, it forms a strong, flexible bond between the ink and the fabric.
Dyeing
Dyeing is the process of applying color to fabric before any construction begins. This ensures the entire material is uniformly colored, which is essential for certain designs or branding. Depending on the method used—like reactive dye or pigment dye—the fabric’s look and feel can change. This step is foundational when custom base colors are needed.
Dyeing is normally done in a special solution containing dyes and particular chemical material.
Sublimation
Sublimation is a high-quality printing method where ink is transferred onto fabric using heat. The ink turns into gas and embeds itself into polyester fibers, resulting in vibrant, durable prints. This step is usually done on flat panels for maximum design accuracy. It’s especially popular for sportswear, jerseys, and all-over graphic garments requiring full-color artwork.
Cutting
Cutting involves slicing the dyed and prepped fabric into specific pattern pieces for assembly. Precision is key here, whether using manual shears or automated cutting machines. Accurate cutting ensures a proper fit, consistent design placement, and minimizes waste. This is the step where the fabric transitions from raw material to garment components ready for customization.
Embroidery
Embroidery adds texture and depth to garments by stitching thread-based designs directly into the fabric. This is typically done before the garment is assembled to ensure flat, stable surfaces. Embroidery is used for logos, patches, and personalized touches. It offers a premium, long-lasting look, enhancing the garment’s aesthetic and perceived value with a handcrafted finish.
Stitching
Stitching is where the garment begins to take shape. The cut and decorated panels are sewn together using industrial machines, ensuring strength and consistency. Proper stitching affects both comfort and durability. At this stage, attention to detail is critical to align graphics, maintain symmetry, and ensure each garment meets design and size specifications.
Shaping
Shaping involves molding or pressing the stitched garment into its final form. This may include contouring hats, pressing seams, or steaming garments for a polished appearance. It ensures everything looks clean, fits well, and is retail-ready. Shaping gives structure and helps finalize the look of the piece, making it ready for quality control or packaging.
Final Heat Press
The final heat press step ensures that all prints, embellishments, or transferred graphics are fully cured and bonded. It also removes wrinkles and gives the garment a crisp, finished look. This step enhances overall durability and appearance, preparing the piece for packing or retail display. It’s the last quality-assurance measure before the product reaches customers.
